75 years
This year, we celebrate our 75th anniversary, a perfect moment to reflect on our founding in 1949 and our growth thanks to excellent relationships with clients and colleagues. Willem Keyer and Henck Ness, two ingenious entrepreneurs with a passion for chemistry, met at the drawing table after the Second World War. Together, they founded the drawing and construction company Keynes NV to contribute to the reconstruction of the chemical industry in the Netherlands, laying the foundation for KH Engineering.
Growth through entrepreneurship
From the beginning, Willem and Henck’s strength was in engaging the right colleagues and involving clients in projects early on. This led to success! Even then, they shared the core values – human, collaborative, and forward-thinking – that we uphold in 2024. In addition to client and market, we now also focus on climate and living environment. Many of our current projects involve assignments related to the energy and resource transition. At the same time, we remain attentive to the viability of the existing industry, helping them to become more sustainable without losing profitability.
Integration and learning
After Willem and Henck parted ways, Willem continued to expand the company. The successful completion of various projects significantly increased the client and staff base. The company kept growing, expanding its knowledge and skills through various acquisitions and mergers. In 2000, this led to a new name: KH Engineering. In 2007, we opened our office in Antwerp, and in 2013, we added Smart AIS as a sister company: an independent organisation specialising in asset integrity, asset management, 3D laser scanning, drone data capture, and inspection services. In 2019, we established the New Energy & Infrastructure group, working on the sustainability of the industry from a multidisciplinary perspective.
These developments have shaped us into the company we are today: a multidisciplinary engineering company providing front-end development, engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCm) services in various markets. With 500 engaged colleagues, we serve a wide range of clients from locations in key industrial clusters: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Antwerp. We also follow our clients across borders, for instance to Germany, to support them there.

In 75 years, much has changed, but the client has always been our top priority! This requires good collaboration – both internally and with the client – and creativity. Together, we form a team and seek the best solutions, combined with a personal and pragmatic approach. We tailor our team composition to the needs of our clients, and the lines of communication are always short.
